ABOUT ORFEAS
OUR HISTORY
Orfeas Organization was originally called Orfeas (Greek: Ορφέας). It was named after the mythical musician Orpheus. The major stories about him are centered on his ability to charm all living things and even stones with his music. They also focus on his attempt to retrieve his wife, Eurydice, from the underworld. Finally, they recount his death at the hands of those who could not hear his divine music.
Orfeas Organization started off as a music band in 1997. It consisted of 16 musicians playing the guitar, piano, accordion, bouzouki, baglamas, drums… They used to do concerts in the region of Corinth, Greece.
The organization later evolved into the Center for Culture, Education, and Youth “ORFEAS” AMKE, a non-profit based in Xylokastro, Corinthia (Greece), officially launching its activities in August 2000.
