ENVIRONMENT

Orfeas designs and implements environmental activities that aim to raise awareness, encourage responsible behavior and promote active participation in environment protection. Through hands-on actions, educational workshops and community-based initiatives, the organisation empowers children, youth and the general the local community to better understand environmental challenges and to take an active role in building more sustainable local community.

Environmental activities are closely linked with youth work, volunteering and non-formal education, particularly through the European Solidarity Corps. International volunteers are actively involved in environmental protection actions such as clean-up activities in the forest of Pefkias (natural pine tree forest in Xylokastro), in the coast of Xylokastro, recycling awareness campaigns and environmental days celebrated in cooperation with schools and local authorities. These actions combine learning with experience, helping the local community to connect environmental issues with everyday life.

We give emphasis on environmental education, especially for younger age groups. Through interactive workshops in schools, creative activities, quizzes, games and artistic projects using recycled materials, students learn about topics such as waste reduction, recycling, water protection, biodiversity and climate responsibility in an engaging and age-appropriate way. Learning is experiential and participatory, encouraging curiosity, critical thinking and environmentally responsible habits.

Orfeas also promotes collective action and community responsibility by involving locals, schools and international volunteers in public environmental initiatives. Activities are often linked to international awareness days, strengthening the connection between local action and global environmental challenges.

Through our environmental activities, we have developed solid experience in awareness-raising campaigns, cooperation with municipalities and schools, and the integration of environmental themes into youth and community work. Environmental protection is approached not only as a responsibility, but as an educational process that fosters active citizenship, cooperation and sustainable thinking.
