Xylokastro refrains from Corinth about 40 km and it is an ideal place to stay, but for a base tour. Xylokastro is one of the closest escape from Athens. It took its name from a wooden castle that is believed to be built in this region during the years of the Franks (1204 - 1261 AD).

Today Xylokastro has 6,700 inhabitants and is the third most populous city in the prefecture of Corinth. It is a place which can be visited both during the winter and during the summer. The beautiful beaches and forests of pine each year attracts thousands of visitors to Xylokastro and as a result the town of Xylokastro has become a major tourist resort in the Peloponnese. Lots of people have built holiday homes in this area,where a wide range of accommodation and entertainment centers are founded.

Apart from the forest of pine, " the green homeland beaches"  by Kostas Karyotakis (poet) and a source of inspiration for Angelos Sikelianou (poet), with its 83 species of plants and trees and many paths leading to the Corinthian Gulf, you may  visit the Church of St. Vlasios and St Gerasimos. Next to the church of Agios Gerasimos there is a room where you can see many sacred relics. Also there is the old style Church Faneromenis. From Xylokastro  you can go quicklybe to Trikala (many Athenians know as a nearby Hunting) and from there to easily find the ski center Zireias.
 

 

DHKEX is the cultural-educational and development organization of the municipality of Xylokastro that organizes complete social, environmental and cultural activities and programs for the citizens. It has 5 departments:

1.Cultural department, which organises cultural events and educational activities for the citizens of the municipality.

2. Social department which supports and assist

A) program for elderly and disadvantage people

B) a program for child care

C). one kindergarten

3. Environmental department which deals with the environmental protection, information and activities

4. Sports department , which organises sport clubs of football, basketball, mini soccer and  tennis

5. Youth Information department for youngsters between 13 to 30 years old
